Create a menu item for the first time

In this article, we will walk you through the menu setup steps by steps.  

If you just try to edit or add several items to the current menu, go to Step 6.

Step 1.  BO>  Product 

After login the BO, go to “Product”.

 

Step 2. Create/Edit modifier groups 

Modification/ Modifier is an add-on option of your menu item, for example, Toppings, Flavors, Side Dishes.  If there is no modification on the menu, skip to the next step.

  • Find the “Modification” under the Product and click it.
  • Select a branch you want to apply to the menu setting.
  • Click the “Add modification” button to the “Add Modifier Group” page.

 

  • Add/ Edit Modifier Group

    1. Fill out all the “*” required column in this page

Fill out the Naming section: This first(left) column is for English names and the 2nd(right) one is for Chinese names. If you only display ONE language on POS, please duplicate the name on BOTH columns.




    1. Change Modifier Group Display: Color/Icon
      1.  Modifier group Color: Tap , and select the color for this modifier group. 

      1. Modifier group Icon: Tab the icon and select one from the list.

      1. How does a modifier group display on POS:

 

    1. The option of selecting Request or Side for the modifier group.
      1. Request: you can only select one option in the POS and it is free.
      2. Side: you can select more than one option and every option can have its own prices. Side modifier groups have the Maximum and Minimum to control the available selections.

  • Active/Inactive the modifier group

You can active/inactive the group to control if it is displayed on POS.

 

Step 3. Create variant groups 

A variant is a form or version of something that differs from a standard, for example, Size, Color.  If there is no variant on the menu, skip to the next step.

  • Find “Variant” under “Product” and go to the “Variants” page. 

 

  • Select a branch you want to apply the menu setting to.
  • Click the “Add Variant group” button and fill out the required information.   If you only display ONE language on POS, please duplicate the name on BOTH columns.
  • Click “Save”  

 

Step 4.  Create Menu Groups 

  • Find Menu Group under “Product”, and switch to the menu groups page
  • Select a branch you want to apply the menu setting to.
  • Click “Add Menu Group” button will open a new page to create menu group

 

  • If it is the first time to create a menu, just enter the menu group name and click “SAVE”

 

Step 5. Create menu categories

  • Find “Menu Category” under “Product” and go to the “Menu Category” page
  • Select a branch you want to apply the menu setting to.
  • Click the “Add Category” button to create a new one.

 

  • Add/ Edit menu categories

File the name and select menu group, tax, modifier groups, variant groups for this category.  These settings will be applied to the menu item that is under this category.

    1. Naming: 
      1. Category Name: This first(left) column is for English names and the 2nd(right) one is for Chinese names. If you only display ONE language on POS, please duplicate the name on BOTH columns.
      2. Active: switch on(green) to show it on the POS
      3. Self-order: switch on(green) to show it on Self-Ordering Kiosk.

      1. Change Icon: click the icon and select from the list.

 

    1. Grouping:
      1. Menu Group: Select the menu group from the dropdown menu, if you don’t have one, go back to Step 4 or click  for quick adding.
      2. Sales Category: please find the setting in Step 7.  You can use the” Default Sales Category” before creating one.
    2. Taxing
      Select the tax from the dropdown and the tax will apply to all the menu items under this sales category. (How to set up a sales tax?)
    3. Advanced Options
      1. Modification: Select one or multiple from the dropdown and apply it to all the menu items under this category.
      2. Variants: Select one from the dropdown and apply it to all the menu items under this category.
      3. Promotion: Select one or multiple from the dropdown and apply it to all the menu items under this category.
    4. Printer Setting

Attach one or multiple printers from the dropdown and it will apply to all the menu items under this category.

    1. Click “SAVE” 

 

 



Step 6. Create menu items 

  1. Find Menu Item under Product, 
  2. Select a branch you want to apply the menu setting to.
  3. Select one menu category and click “Add menu item” button

 

  1. Naming
    1. Item Name: This first(left) column is for English names and the 2nd(right) one is for Chinese names. If you only display ONE language on POS, please duplicate the name on BOTH columns.
    2. Short Name: for printing, if the item name is too long to print on the label or receipt.
    3. Active: Switch on(green) to display this item on POS.
    4. Open Item:  An Open Item is an empty product listing that allows the server to enter a custom name and price.
    5. Self-order: Switch on(green) and if this item is available for self-order kiosk order.
    6. Item image: Display on Dashboard and POS, click or drag the file here and upload it.

 

  1. Grouping & Advance Options:
    When you create a menu item under a menu category,  in the new open profile, the category, modifications, variants, and tax should have been selected.   Still, you can make changes if needed.
  2. Just enter the name and price and save, and you finish creating the first menu item.
  3. Pricing
    1. If you have set up a variant group and attach to this menu item, and you will be able to see the multi-price section.  
    2. Enable the price 
    3. Select the default price for POS

  1. Scale Item
    1. Pricing> Scale Item:  Switch On(green)
    2. Select how you want to calculate it: by the pound, by ounce…
    3. Enter the price: how much per _______

 

  1. Printer

Select one or multiple the printer from the dropdown.

  1. SAVE the settings.

 

Step 7. Sales Category

Sales Category is for reporting use, not for POS menu displaying & order taking.  It is an optional section of your menu setting.  

  1. Go to “Sales Category” → Add new → Name the sales category and tap “
  2. Go to a Menu item or a Menu Category →  Select a sales category
